  Governing Legistlation and Regulatory Environment
The governing legislation and regulatory environment in which REMCo operates are described as follows.

Governing Legistlation
Among the main pieces of legislation that currently govern gas distribution and retail sales in Western Australia are:
Gas Pipelines Access (Western Australia) Act 1998;
Energy Coordination Act 1994; and
Gas Standards Act 1972.

Changes to the Energy Coordination Act 1994 to facilitate gas full retail competition were promulgated in August 2003 through the Energy Legislation Amendments Act 2003.

Regulatory Environment
The Economic Regulation Authority is responsible for the economic regulation of the Western Australian gas market, which includes regulation of the REMCo Retail Market Scheme, which covers all of the WA Gas Networks distribution systems.

Further details about the Economic Regulation Authority can be found at www.era.wa.gov.au.
