REMCo is the Retail Market Operator for the contestable gas retail market in
Western Australia. REMCo's role is to administer business processes between
the gas market businesses in Western Australia that allow gas retailers to cost
effectively compete for the supply of gas to over 620,000 customers.
Prior to 1 October 2009, REMCo was the Retail Market Operator for both the
Western Australian and South Australian gas retail markets. However, REMCo
transferred responsibility for administration of the South Australian gas retail
market to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) on 1 October 2009, and
is now a Western Australian only operation.
